Hello Year 5 It was great to receive your interesting questions. We have done our best to answer them all !

The front of mine and Dan’s house.

Our water tanks in camp where water is pumped from the borehole and stored at height for pressure. Next to the tanks is our sewage treatment plant.

Recycling in camp.

The camp radio, all our local communications are by radio.

The staff village cooking area in camp, very basic and everything cooked on the fire as they would at home in the villages.

Traditional bread oven in camp, where you light a fire in the bottom, cover with a metal sheet and cook the bread in the ground.

The staff village in camp where 18 people live.

Some of our team and Dan on our way out of the park to the villages today

The journey out of the park. Heavily packed vehicle.

Everyone collects empty containers

What we call 'oh my goodness' bridge on the way to Mukunashi.

Dan and Watson, our plumber, outside his house. He has an iron roof on his house, a sign of having a well paid job.

Watson reunited with his youngest son. When they are at work they only get to go home once every 6 weeks.

Lemmy, one of our chefs, in front of his house.

Our camp hand, Molodoni, with some of his children. He has 19 but when we dropped him off today his second wife handed him 2 newborn twins he had not met before!

A more traditional style house.

Women and children gathered at the water pump, tends to be a bit of a meeting spot. You can see the women’s chitenges. This is the patterned fabric skirts they wear. Chitenges are also used to carry babies on their mother’s backs.

One of the boreholes and water pumps in Mukunashi.

One of the Mukunashi village shops with a shopkeeper.

Mukunashi village market square.

Mukunashi Primary School

Some pupils in front of the school and teachers behind.

We gave some kids a ride on the way back. It’s the weekend so no school and they were going to collect caterpillars - a bit of a delicacy here. Yuck!

We are back now from our 12 hour round trip, dropping our staff off at their homes. We hope that this has given you an insight into what life is like here at the Shumbabush Camp. Thought this might amuse you; the view from where I am sitting on our bed while answering the questions He was much closer to start off with but was keeping still before getting the camera! Lots of love Laura and Dan.
