Princess Angeline By Macy Quigg

Who was Princess Angeline? Princess Angeline was the connection between the Duwamish Native Americans and the white settlers. Her real name was Kikisoblu, she was later christened Angeline and Princess was a nickname. Angeline was Chief Seattle’s oldest daughter. He was chief of both the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. Though she married Dokub Cud, she was also Chief Seattle’s first wife.

Princess Angeline’s Religion Chief Seattle was a Native American but saw to it that all his children were baptized and raised in the Catholic faith. This trait helped Angeline fit in with the white settlers. This is also why the increase of Anti-Catholic attitudes affected her.

Important Possessions Princess Angeline owned many important things. She had a cottage foot of Pike Street. She also had a dog who lived with her there. Probably the most important thing she owned was a string of beads known as a rosary in the Catholic church.

Princess Angeline’s Death Princess Angeline died on May 31,1896. She was buried in a canoe near her friend Henry Yesler at her request. After she died a parade was held in her honor. Princess Angeline was 76 when she died.

Memories Princess Angeline was an important figure in our community. She did many important things. Though she died 111 years ago, she is still alive in our hearts and souls.
