Women in industry Do you know any women working in the industrial sector? In recent years, the number of women working in industry in Ireland has increased. In pairs, try to identify reasons for this.

The Developed World - Ireland In the past, women worked inside the home. Today, many chose careers outside of it. There are many reasons for this: 1.Free secondary education 2.Women’s liberation movement of the 1970s. Change in the status of women and their roles in society. Legislation changed to allow women to continue working after getting married.

The Developed World – Ireland 3. Gender equality laws. 4. Increased cost of living.

The Developing World - China Many women from poor, rural backgrounds in China migrate to urban areas to work in factories. Low wages. Far below developed world’s standards. Toys and clothes made for export to Europe and the USA. Situation in China is improving. Percentage of girls attending school has risen to 90%.
