Teaching procedure: Step I. Warming up English song “Jingle Bells” as listening material Step II. Free talk Show press clippings and ppt. works to the class and talk about some major Chinese holidays and festivals. Step III. Picture talk Put the name of each holiday under the right picture. ( May Day, Christmas, New Year’s day, Easter)
Step IV. lead in the text 1.Introduce some cultural background of these three festivals, especially May Day and Easter which Chinese students are not familiar with. 2.Scan the text, answer the questions and complete the table with the information from the text. Step V. Assign the homework 1.Find out more Western Festivals and holidays, and pick out the favourite one to complete the press clippings or ppt. works. 2.
