Teaching Plan Unit 4 Holidays and Festivals Teacher: Ruan Yi No.2 high School Affiliated to Shanghai Normal University Teaching aims: This class is intended to help the students to get a glimpse into some major Western and Chinese holidays and festivals, and lead to the text “Holidays and Festivals in the United Kingdom” after they have previewed the new words and expressions in the text and have prepared press clippings on some Chinese traditional festivals. Teaching design: Task-based Method ( input--- Task --- output ) Teaching aids: Multimedia computer

Teaching procedure: Step I. Warming up English song “Jingle Bells” as listening material Step II. Free talk Show press clippings and ppt. works to the class and talk about some major Chinese holidays and festivals. Step III. Picture talk Put the name of each holiday under the right picture. ( May Day, Christmas, New Year’s day, Easter)

Step IV. lead in the text 1.Introduce some cultural background of these three festivals, especially May Day and Easter which Chinese students are not familiar with. 2.Scan the text, answer the questions and complete the table with the information from the text. Step V. Assign the homework 1.Find out more Western Festivals and holidays, and pick out the favourite one to complete the press clippings or ppt. works. 2.
