53412 – MQs for Noncredit Faculty Noncredit Committee currently generating issues to be considered in migrating noncredit MQs from title 5 to the Disciplines List Does title 5 afford more protection? Given the low representation for noncredit among delegates, how to make sure the noncredit perspective is heard
55003 – Prerequisites Removes requirement for data analysis for English or mathematics prerequisites on courses outside these disciplines. Content review is the only requirement for validation; statistical validation is optional. Prerequisites continue to need review every 6 years, or 2 years if vocational courses/programs See the latest paper in session materials Still unknown what the accountability will be – reports, plans, tracking, etc.
55035 – Remedial Coursework 30 unit limit for basic skills instruction ESL is exempt from the 30 unit limit Is this a good time to update? Need to update because: ▫The current regulations are confusing ▫Some basic skills pathways now require more coursework, hence potentially more units
55040 – Repetition and Withdrawal Added to title 5 ways that students could legitimately repeat a course (lapse of time, substandard grade, wildfires, etc.) Limited withdrawals to 4 Combined repeats and withdrawals raised concerns about limiting access for other students Current regulations allow for 2 repeats and 4 withdrawals; guidelines soon Now back to the drawing board
– AP and IB Reviewing the regulations to see if a generic version of title 5 will suffice rather than make it specific to commercial tests Is it better to allow students to meet some college requirements by taking standardized tests (including CLEP), and adapt the regulations to be inclusive without being explicit?
– Noncredit Clarity and less redundancy Removal of 288-hour language for short-term vocational programs Emphasis that noncredit certificates need to undergo review by local curriculum committee Noncredit certificates cannot be transcripted
