Mentoring Program PRIOR TO START OF GAME Let both coaches know you will be a mentor official –You are there for positional instruction –No involvement unless absolutely necessary Meet with both Officials –Go over your role as a mentor (This is a learning process) –Go over positioning briefly –Go over face off procedures in depth (you will not have time during the game) DURING THE GAME (Do not over rule a judgment call made by an Official who is in position) (Only severe & blatant situations, (injury potential), should a mentor request an official call a penalty) (Always keep and up beat and positive image to the Officials) Start by the Official not dropping the puck. –You will shadow this official until next stoppage –You will always shadow the official not dropping the puck. –Verbal communication should be given throughout the game such as: “good signal” “we better get to the goal line” “lets move up on the icing” “players first on a stoppage” “we better hustle to get in position” “watch the slot area” –If there is a debate between a coach/player, let the official handle it before intervention AFTER THE GAME Thank both Coaches Fill out Mentor evaluation form. Go over the game and form with both Officials.
