PALM OIL

Coconuts Coconut trees grow in tropical climate forests. 1/3 of world’s population depend on coconuts for food and their parts used for domestic, industrial and commercial purposes.

Coconut Tree Parts…  Food  Husks  Water  Oil  Trunk  Fronds/leaves  Shell  Roots What do we use the parts for?

Rainforest or Oil Palms? Millions of hectares of rainforests cleared in South East Asia have been replaced by oil palms for the production of palm oil.

Effects  Conversion from natural forests to oil palm plantations:  destroys native foods and  habitats of endangered species like orangutans.
