Report Card Working Group of the MA-HDC Obesity Table – At A Glance

Report Card Working Group of the MA-HDC Prevalence of overweight and obesity using BRFSS 2008 and 2001 survey - Highlights  The percent of overweight among all groups increased between 2001 and  In 2008, among the overweight population with annual household income less than $25,000 the percent overweight was higher among Black Non-Hispanics (71.23%) and Hispanic/Latino (62.73%) compared to White Non-Hispanics (58.62%). Among the obese population with annual household income less than $25,000, the percent obese among the Black Non-Hispanics (34.31%) was higher compared to White Non-Hispanics (24.04 %).  In 2008, the percentage of health consequences such as fair or poor health, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, disability among the overweight or obese population was higher among Black Non- Hispanics compared with Hispanic/Latino, White-Non Hispanics and Asians. However, the prevalence of asthma among overweight or obese population was higher among Hispanic/Latino.

Report Card Working Group of the MA-HDC Report Card Production– Resources and Timeline  Interns from local colleges will continue to be recruited  The work continues to be co-managed by Georgia Simpson May and Kristin Golden at DPH.  Additional persons from DPH with epidemiological skills will work with the production team on the technical aspects of indicator specification, generation, and reporting.
