Lesson 4 Roots Brainstorm what these roots might mean: homo hyper mono/mon pod therm

(1) homogeneous ROOTS: homo = “same” + genos = “race, kind” PART OF SPEECH: DEFINITION: consisting of parts all of the same kind SYNONYM: ANTONYM: RELATED FORMS: SENTENCE: Sam’s neighborhood is homogeneous because all of the houses have the same design.

(2) homophone ROOTS: homo = “same” + phonos = “voice” PART OF SPEECH: noun DEFINITION: a word pronounced the same as another word but having a different meaning and (usually) different spelling SYNONYM: RELATED FORMS: homophonic (adj.) SENTENCE:
