Alkali Metals Group 1 (except hydrogen) Extremely reactive – found in compounds with other elements Extremely soft (can cut with a knife) Example: sodium (Na) is found in table salt
Alkaline Earth Metals Group 2 elements Highly reactive Softer than most metals except the alkalis Example: Calcium (Ca) is used in muscle contractions
