"P ROFESORADO, T RADUCTORADO Y LICENCIATURAS DE I NGLÉS " AT THE FAHCE, UNLP Our experience at the faculty during the first year

Our University is pretty big, the buildings are all brand new and very spacious. We share them with different careers. In buildings A, B and C are the classrooms. In A and C there are, also, administrative rooms to help us, students, with different situations we may face during our career.

At building B we have the buffet and library among classrooms.

H OW DO I GET TO THE U NIVERSITY ? You can either ride the bus (the bus stops are in different places around la plata, making it easier for us to get it), arrive walking, riding a bike or any vehicle you may have. There is a huge parking lot at the entrance and the buses arrive inside it, so you don’t even need to tell the bus driver when you require a stop. If you, like us, tend to get lost in your thoghts from time to time, this will be a great advantage!

W HAT GOT US INTO STUDYING ENGLISH The subjects played an important role. We all study to became English Translators, and during the first year we are having both english and spanish subjects, such as: Fonetica y Fonología Inglesa 1, Lengua Inglesa 1, Derecho aplicado a la traducción, Introducción a los estudios del Lenguaje, Gramática Inglesa 1. We are also able to choose between Introducción a la Literatura, Introducción a la Filosofía, Literatura Latinoamericana or Literatura Argentina. It’s very useful to attend all theoretical classes, even though they are not mandatory. They help a lot to have a better understanding in the practical classes, and they also prepare us to take final exams.

This first year at university has been even better that what we expected. We have met a lot of new people, even some of them became our closest friends, who share the same interest and passion as we do for English. It is a difficult transition between High School and University, but getting used to is not something impossible to achieve. There are a lot of professors who are willing to help us during such process, students in advanced years and some mates that had already studied something else and can give us some advice.

If you are not from La Plata, the next slides will give you some information about it.

L A P LATA C ITY La Plata is an amazing city for students who come from different places along the country. It is quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by university students.

There are lots of things to do: pubs, discos, places where local bands perform, cafes, restaurants, libraries... It doesn't matter what your interests are, you'll find something amusement to do.

Turistic places, such as “El bosque”, “El Planetario”, La Plata’s Zoo, The Cathedral, The City Hall among others.
