pag. 7 Bruxelles 26/03/07 stakeholder forum IRRINET: IT services for farm water management implemented by CER Consorzio di Bonifica di secondo grado per il Canale Emiliano Romagnolo: +to optimise the use of water at farm level by transferring personalised technical indications. +The support is based on water balance according to specific research and studies carried out locally for more than 20 years +Started in 1984 with public founding to test telematics in agriculture (Videotext) on the WEB in GIS and advanced WEB interfaces in 2002 and information on water content in soil from the “ipodermic” network (Region+ provinces); in 2003: WEB + SMS (IrriSMS)

pag. 15 Bruxelles 26/03/07 stakeholder forum +Several associations of producers have joined IRRINET, operating a service which collect information relevant to their members from IRRINET, and providing personalized advises to farmers. +A remarkable example is the Consorzio di Bonifica Parmigiana Moglia, (a reclamation bureau) locate in the area of production of the Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. A call centre from the Consortium operates both in booking and distributing water. +CER estimate water saving allowed by applying Irrinet in the 2006 about 50 million/m 3 on the 23% of the regional irrigated plain surface +the new vulnerable Zones action plan approved from the Region (nitrate Directive) suggest all the farmers to use Irrinet in order to reduce the nitrate discharge in the soil
