DO NOW: COMPLETE THE QUESTIONS ON PAGE 102 UNDER “WE GATHER”. WHAT ARE SOME WAYS THAT SIGNS PROTECT US? Chapter 8 : Lesson 4

After the ninth plague, God told Moses to tell the Israelites to prepare for their escape from Egypt. The Israelites were to kill a lamb and mark their doorframes with the blood. This would be a sign that the people living there were Israelites, not Egyptians. They were to cook the lamb and eat it with bitter herbs and unleavened bread. Unleavened bread is bread made without yeast, which takes a lot of time to rise. This unleavened bread symbolized the Israelites rush to escape.

Chapter 8 : Lesson 4 The Israelites obeyed God’s instructions. After marking their doors, they were to remain inside their homes. At midnight God would pass over all of Egypt taking the lives of the Egyptians first born, including their animals.

Chapter 8 : Lesson 4 Only the Israelites and their animals were spared. This event was called the PASSOVER, since God passed over, or spared his people. Moses led his people out of Egypt to the Red Sea. God led his people by means of a cloud during the day, and a column of fire at night. Moses parted the Red Sea to get his people to safety.

Chapter 8 : Lesson 4 Concept: How was God able to guide his people to freedom? Questions: Read pages How did the Israelites prepare for their escape? 2. What is the meaning of Passover? 3. How did God lead the Israelites out of Egypt? 4. What do the waters of the Red Sea symbolize for Christians?
