Ten Commandments of Word Processing

I. Thou shall not use spaces n Put no more than two spaces together. n Use the key to line things up. n Better yet, put information in tables

II. Thou shall not press at the end of each line n Let the software “wrap” the lines. n Press only when you want to start a new paragraph. Enter

III. Thou shall not use the key to start a new page n Insert a “Page Break” command using the software. n The “Page Break” command insures that changes to previous pages do not affect the new page. ENTER 1 2

IV. Thou shall not manually number the pages n Word processing software has an automatic page numbering command. n Learn how to place the page numbering code into your document. Insert Page Code # P

V. Thou shall not try to print unless you have saved the document first n Save the document before sending it to the printer. n Follow this rule when you have long, complicated text with lots of graphics.

VI. Thou shall not try to print unless the printer is turned on n Ignoring this rule, and Commandment VI. can result in a system crash, and loss of your document. n If you are connected to several printers, be sure that you are sending the document to the correct printer.

VII. Thou shall not quit your work without saving it n Don’t trust the “Auto Save” feature to have recorded the latest changes. n It is O.K. to save multiple versions of your work, and erase them later. Memo: Please Save me!!!!!!!!!!

VIII. Thou shall not answer or press too quickly n Real the screen before you press. n Know what will happen if you press

IX. Thou shall not turn off (or reset) the computer until you exit the application n Always exit properly. n Use the combination, then to exit Windows, quickly.

X. Thou shall not forget to Back up your work n Keep copies of all important, hard to format work n Make templates of forms and other re-useable documents n “Write Protect” your forms and re-usable documents Thanks for backing me up!
