Metaphor/Symbolic - Collage On the following slides, you will find your library assignment and internet links that will help you accomplish your goals. You only have two days in the library to locate your photos, pattern paper and written metaphor, so please use this time wisely. You need all these requirements for your collage project when we return to the classroom. Go to the next slide. “Pittsburg Memories” Romare Bearden

Library Assignment 1.We discussed symbolic/metaphoric images in class. Please find three images that fit the description “symbolic” copy/paste them into a word document. Please think about what size they should be for your collage Should all your images be small squares, or should some of them be larger for use in the collage?? How do you plan to use the image in your collage?

Image websites 8&rlz=1T4ADBF_enUS267US273&q=visual+metaphor+examples&oi=image_result_group&sa =X 8&rlz=1T4ADBF_enUS267US273&q=visual+metaphor+examples&oi=image_result_group&sa =X Of course you can also do general searches for specific items (photo search)

2. Pattern paper for your collage – you will need at least one sheet of black/white patterns. (links for patterns on the next slide) Do you want this size? Would this be more useful for what you want it for?

Patterns website Of course you can also look for patterns as a Google search.

3) You need to have one written metaphor. You must understand the meaning of the metaphor! Please look for something that you feel relates to you personally in some way. Use the website below to look for written examples. You can use one from a website, or you can write a metaphor of your own. Written Example: – "Memory is a crazy woman that hoards colored rags and throws away food.“ This website is only one source for written metaphor. Please look at this and other websites for your written example. Remember, you can also write your own metaphor for the assignment.

Check List: Assignment Requirements: – 3 symbolic images (you could have more) – 1 page of black/white pattern paper – 1 written metaphor – Save all items on one word document. – Print in library and/or saved on your Z drive, or a flash drive.
