Battle of the Sexes Advertisement Scavenger Hunt/Collage Challenge 2015

Battle of the Sexes Scavenger Hunt/Collage Today we will review, discuss, and analyze various advertisements found in print, as well as cyberspace. Our goal is to search for and discuss the many different examples of how BOTH MEN & WOMEN are pressure within certain aspects of American life. For instance, how do MOST advertising agencies display men & women within their advertisements? Do these patterns represent an unfair “norm” that both men and women are encouraged to embrace and or strive for? Part One: Look at the ads found within the PPT. Answer these questions for each: A. What is the product being sold or pushed? B. What is the name/brand of the product? C. Who is the target audience (who are they trying to appeal to?) D. What societal norms are present within the advertisement?

Battle of the Sexes Scavenger Hunt/Collage Part Two: Now you try… A. Use the available magazines to locate multiple ads that place specific pressures on either men or women in our society today. Find 7 ads to analyze. B. Based on the class discussions we have had, what is the specific expectation/pressure men and women are highly encouraged to adhere to in our society today? Is it a physical/mental/emotional pressure to look or be a certain way? Answer B-F for each one of your chosen advertisements. C. What is the product? D. Who is the target audience? E. What is the name/brand of the product? F. Based on the advertisement, what is it that men or women are expected to do, and or be? *** How are the ads attempting to persuade the average consumer to purchase the products? Use the cut out pictures/ads to put on a blank piece of construction paper. Be sure to create a neat collage using your 7 ads. Write your written responses on notebook paper. Be sure to cover the entire page of construction paper( no blank areas!!) Don’t forget to label your collage- Battle of the Sexes Collage.
