Art 7 Printmaking Assignment/ 60 points possible Art Materials needed; pencil, paper, foam printing plate, brayer, printing ink, colored paper, colored pencil This assignment will focus on the process of printmaking. You will be creating a printing plate from which you will print an edition of at least 4 prints.

 Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing multiple images from a printing plate, normally on paper. Printmaking normally covers only the process of creating prints that have an element of originality, rather than just being a photographic reproduction of a painting.

Step 1; Create a series of 6 drawings for possible print ideas, we will do the first 3 together and then you will choose the images for your final 3. Remember; you will be using one of the 6 drawings for your printmaking assignment so choose your personal images carefully. *Subjects that work well include animals, people, and nature.

#1 Tutankhamen's Funerary Death Mask

#2 Vincent VanGogh Bedroom in Arles 1888

#3 Les Kouba Bass Research Stamp 1981

 Step 1 continued; Create a series of 6 drawings for possible print ideas, we will do the first 3 together and then you will choose the subjects for your final 3.  Look for interesting and complex images  Look for variety of lines in the images  Look for subject matter that is interesting to you

Step 2; Once you’ve decided on the image you want to use for the final printed image, transfer it onto the foam printing plate. To begin, tape the image to the top of the foam plate and then trace over all of your lines with a ball point pen or a dull pencil. Step3; After you have transferred your final image onto the foam printing plate you are ready to print your artist proof, remember you will be turning this one in!

Step 4; Finish printing each of the additional 3 prints; colored pencil enhanced, collage and original. Step 5; Label all 4 prints correctly, paper clip them together with an assessment form and turn in.

an artist proof (the first print pulled from the printing plate), one print enhanced with colored pencil, one print that is printed on an original paper collage one original(your own creative idea) print.
