Landscape: Trees Notes that can help you draw from nature

Value Scale: Prepare the sky Create a 5 step value scale Continuous tone is called a gradient Use the side of your pencil to create a gradient in the sky from a 4 value to a 0 Use a paper towel to blend the sky into the paper Use an eraser in a circular motion to erase out the clouds. Do not use pencil outline

Add the Tree Use fast gesture marks to draw the feeling of leaves and mass. Think of overlapping masses as leaf clusters. Do not try to draw individual leaves (except for the edges of the form). Leave spaces where the sky can show through or branches can be seen.
