PHYSICAL FITNESS Overall measure of ones total fitness. Must include all 5 components of fitness.

5 COMPONENTS OF FITNESS Muscular Strength Muscular Endurance Cardiovascular Endurance Flexibility Body Composition.

MUSCLES!!! Muscle Strength – Amount of power your muscles can perform over short period of time. Muscle Endurance – Amount of power your muscles can perform over a long period of time.

CARDIO!!!! Aerobic Exercise - The body uses Oxygen in order to perform. Longer activities. Anaerobic Exercise – Short and powerful exercises that does not require Oxygen.

FLEXIBILITY!!! Flexibility – Stretching of the muscles. Muscles lengthen. Less chance of injury.

BODY COMPOSITION Body Composition – Combination of a humans fat, bones, and muscles.

Fitness Terms Repetitions – Amount of times an exercise is performed. EX. Bicep Curls 10 x. Sets – Amount of different times you perform an exercise. Ex. 10 reps of bicep curls 3 different times.

FITNESS TERMS… Cardio – Exercise that requires use of oxygen. Performed over an extended period of time. Best type of exercise for fat burning.

BENEFITS OF EXERCISE Increase strength. Increase endurance. Decrease weight. Stress reliever.

BENEFITS OF EXERCISE… Reduce chance of heart disease and other illnesses. Increases metabolism. Improves mental/emotional and social health.
