Access for All – The WMI Elevator Project What started as a dream several years ago is now becoming a reality. By the fall of 2010, the WMI will have a ground level entrance with elevator service to the library and museum allowing building access to all. Thanks to the members of the WMI and their families, the Gala Committee, all who participated in the fund-raising galas, Tom Cullum and VPS Architecture, Jeff Koester and a host of dedicated laborers and all who have had a hand in making this project a reality.
It begins with a plan
And a hole in the tower wall
Then a hole in the ground
And yet another hole in the basement wall.
Foundations are strengthened with rebar.
A portion of roof is removed.
Work continues underground.
Holes in floors make way for an elevator shaft.
Steel beams go into place.
In place at last
An equipment room takes shape.
The equipment room nears completion.
We’re not finished yet. Follow our progress as we install our elevator. Watch for “Access for All – Part 2”
