Context Diabetes Statistics:  Prevalence: 6.7% in 2010 and 7.8% by  5th leading cause of mortality (2010)

Davao City Population of 1.46 million in ,000 hectares 182 Barangays, 165 health centres

Davao City Diabetes is the 7th all-age leading cause of mortality in in Davao City Services for diabetes largely unavailable in 2006.

The Diabetes Project Pilot project ( ) 10 Barangays To increase access to multidisciplinary, integrated diabetes management. By capacity building of: – Service providers – Self-help groups – Barangay local government units

The Diabetes Project Capacity building of health and rehabilitation service providers with emphasis on preventive foot care and rehabilitation : 1.Training of primary health care professionals and community health workers 2.Skills upgrading of prosthesis and orthotics technicians 3.Development of tools for: General information Patient education Health service provision and referral

The Diabetes Project Organization and capacity building of self-help groups to be able to advocate for services and find additional resources to support the cost of care of their members
