How Recreational Hunting Effects the Environment Jessie Miller

When recreational hunting is taken too far, entire ecosystems can be destroyed. For instance, if wolves eat rabbits, and the wolves are hunted in excess, the rabbit population will increase. This can also affect other species in the area that interact with the wolves and the rabbits. When recreational hunting is taken too far, entire ecosystems can be destroyed. For instance, if wolves eat rabbits, and the wolves are hunted in excess, the rabbit population will increase. This can also affect other species in the area that interact with the wolves and the rabbits.

In the long run, humans can be affected by the offset in the ecosystem because the food they consume, such as plants and berries, could potentially become more difficult to find, as the increased population of the prey of the animal they hunted has to consume more to survive. But on a more positive note for humans, the increased population of the species could mean a more abundant food source, if the humans decide to hunt them as well. Although, this may be even worse down the road. So What Have We Learned? Recreational hunting over time destroys natural food chains and throws ecosystems off balance. Occasional hunting won’t harm anyone, but once hunting becomes excessive, problems can arise. Recreational hunting over time destroys natural food chains and throws ecosystems off balance.
