Statement of the Problem Teachers are not involve in the planning process of professional development and leader was not conducting need assessment study Malaysian applied very top-down approach in managing educational changes – curriculum need to be implemented according to the curriculum specification (Dhamotharan,2002) Short term notice and training usually given by the ministry which shows that top-down appraoch was applied

Purpose of the Study Examine the effect of professional development on teachers’ instruction Examine the relationship between professional development and changes in teaching instruction Investigate the effect of teachers’ professional development on teacher’s instruction

Research Questions Is there any significant relationship between teachers’ professional development and changes in teaching instruction? What is the effect(s) of teachers’ professional development and teachers’ instruction?

Research Hypotheses Hypothesis for Research Question 1: H 0 : There is no relationship between teachers’ professional development and changes in teaching instruction H 1 : There is a relationship between teacher’s professional development and changes in teaching instruction

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research Design – survey research method Respondents will be given the questionnaire to be completed in a particular time Population and Sample – teachers who teach Year 6 in the selected primary school in Kuala Selangor Instrumentation – adopted and adapted from Missouri Professional Guideline for Student Succes (Guskey & Roy, n.d.)

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Data Collection – Questionnaire distributed to the respondents through the headmaster of each school Researcher will explain purpose of study, time given to answer questionnaire and how respondents should return completed questionnaire in a letter Researcher will do a series of follow-up calls to the headmaster to know the respondents progress

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Data Analysis – using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 17.0 Researcher will carry out descriptive analysis using correlation coefficient and scatterplots to understand the degree of relationship between two variables Researcher choose Pearson correlation to describe the analyze the data for independent and dependent variables
