Presentation transcript:

Nennius, Historia Brittonum "At that time, the Saxons grew strong by virtue of their large number and increased in power in Britain... Arthur along with the kings of Britain fought against them... But Arthur himself was military leader... The twelfth battle was on Mount Badon in which there fell in one day 960 men from one charge by Arthur; and on one struck them down except Arthur himself, and in all the wars he emerged as victor."

Geoffrey of Monmouth, ca Geoffrey was the first to create a full blown mythology about King Arthur -Historia Regnum Britanniae - written and circulated around 1138

William of Malmesbury -Gesta Regum Angelorum Arthur political savior and just king based on Nennius’ account. -Is also critical of treatments of Arthur that turn him into a mythical hero.
