Reading, Writing and Maths is continually assessed through independent tasks and teacher assessment collected throughout the year. Planning is adapted to meet the needs of each pupil and appropriate targets are set.

Talk to them about their work in school and any homework tasks given. If they are stuck try to get them to explain what they are trying to do – talking it through often shows a way forward. Help them and encourage them to take pride in their work and ownership of their learning. Make sure there is somewhere for them to work comfortably, perhaps at a table or desk. Do not stress about homework. Children work hard at school and need time to relax also. Make time for fun, rest hobbies and sports.

If possible, buy a dictionary and encourage children to use it. Use suitable websites, such as Education City, Purple Mash, the BBC bitesize KS2 website and many more. Encourage clear,neat handwriting. Hear your child as often as possible and talk with them about what they have read, what might happen next, if they like it and so on.
