rough sleepers are incredibly vulnerable two main cohorts - living on or new to the streets 2,877 new people were met sleeping rough last year clear need for early intervention Context

pilot launched on 1st April 2011 Mayor's commitment to end rough sleeping by the end of 2012 transforming how we deal with new rough sleepers wide range of delivery partners and cross borough working Background

24/7 dedicated assessment hub and public referral line rapid and assertive response to new rough sleepers supporting individuals to return to services and support in their local area How we do it

1402 came into the NSNO assessment hub ( 1st April st March 2012) 50% of total flow for period 23% leave the assessment hub with a Single Service Offer 17% abandon and leave the assessment hub 18% seen sleeping rough again Facts

70% all new rough sleepers did not spend a second night out 844 (60%) of people had a positive outcome "The whole experience was immediate,amazing and life changing " Michael Dolan, former rough sleeper Success

flow increased over the year NSNO is not just about referrals into the assessment hub over 50% of reconnections within London 50% of rough sleepers medium to high needs and not new to sleeping rough poor advice and assistance and support to single non priority homeless challenges in managing the 72 hour target in the hub managing public expectation Learning and Challenges

expanding No Second Night Out to all London authorities opening a second assessment hub in west London from 1st June improve performance working with LA to develop responses to the target group developing the phone line to include advice to those who are not yet sleeping rough review, gather all learning and develop a clear strategy going forwards past 12/13 Next Steps
