Mongols and World Interaction Islam  Khan’s grandson moves west against Mesopotamia and North Africa.  Baghdad was seized and destroyed in  Islam, with the fall of the Abbasid Dynasty lost its central authority.  Mongol victory over the Seljuk Turks in 1243 opened Asia Minor to conquest by the Ottoman Turks.
