Reflections

On a regular basis, I am going to ask you to reflect on the activities that you are doing in this class and the information technology tools that you are seeing. The primary purpose is to reflect on how these activities and information technology tools might be used in the world of finance and investment management. These reflections are to be well-written sentences that appear in one-three paragraphs, along with supporting examples from the material you are seeing and experiencing in class.

Reflection #1: Diversification Pick an age range (20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s) For that particular age range, develop an asset allocation model – What categories would you suggest that someone invest in? Specific funds/stocks ARE NOT to be mentioned: USE CATEGORIES – What percent of their money should be invested into that particular category (all %s must add up to 100%) – Explain the logic behind your model (how and why did you come up with this particular model?) Type this up in a word processing file. Keep Post this same information to the class wiki. Must be submitted by 3:00pm on Tuesday September 6.

Reflection #1 You have now spent time conducting investment research on the Internet. Reflect on your experience. – What were your expectations regarding the difficulty level of this task? – Is what you experienced what you expected? – How would you characterize the activity of conducting investment research on the Internet? – You were asked to research and gather data regarding a number of different items (data points). Which ones were the easiest to find (and why)? Which ones were the hardest to find (and why)?

Reflection #2 How might someone who works in the finance/investment management industry use the Google Docs & Spreadsheets product? Think about your own personal life. How might you be able to use the Google Docs & Spreadsheets product? How might members of a team or workgroup use the Google Docs & Spreadsheets product? Have you ever used Google Docs & Spreadsheets before (prior to this class)? – If so, how did you use it?

Reflection #3 How might someone who works in the finance/investment management industry use a wiki? Think about making personal investments and personal investment decisions. – How could a “regular person” use a wiki? How might members of a team or workgroup use a wiki? Have you ever used a wiki before (prior to this class)? – If so, how did you use it?
