Reading Unit 2

Tips for Job Interview Success 1.From the title, can you predict what this lecture transcript is about? 2.If you are supposed to give tips for an interviewee, what will you suggest?

Fast reading 1. How many parts does the interview process have? Three parts. 2. What should you do after the interview? Write a thank-you letter.

Careful reading 1.What is an interview? 2.What are the purposes of having an interview? 3.Where can you get the information relating to the company that you want to work in? 4.How can you practice you interview? 5.When does the interviewer begin to judge you? 6.What should you wear on the day of the interview? 7.Why should you always look the interviewer in the eye? 8.Give an example of using body language in an interview.

Presentation Suppose you are the professor, try to find out what the interviewee should do at the following three stages in groups. Before the interview (para3-6) During the interview(para7-10) After the interview (para11) 1.Collect information from the website 2.Prepare for possible questions 3.Be confident 4.Be dressed smartly 1.Be on time 2.Be enthusiastic 3.Make eye contact 4.Use body language 5.Listen carefully 6.Show your interest in the job Follow the interview up by writing a thank-you letter

1.True or False Post-reading ① There is no need to prepare for an interview if you are confident enough. ② When you are late for your interview, make sure you can find a believable excuse so that the interviewer can forgive you. ③ During the interview, you’d better not look at the interviewers in the eye, or they will think you are very rude. ④ You can use body language to show you’re very confident during the interview. ⑤ If possible, you may ask the interviewer some questions about the company to show that you are interested in the job. ⑥ Writing a thank-you letter is not only a gesture of politeness, but also a final chance to sell yourself to the company.

Role-play Prepare an interview with your partner. One acts as the interviewer and the other the interviewee. Then act out your interview. The rest of the class need to point out what you do is right and what is wrong.

Homework Your friend Xiao Wang is looking for a job recently and asking you for some tips for a successful interview. Please him with your tips.
