DON’T READ THE SLIDES RESEARCH PRESENTATION TIPS A.K.A….

 Stand up straight  Make eye contact with the audience  Use an audible public speaking voice with appropriate intonation (not quiet or monotone)  Use natural hand movements, and move around the front of the room  Be confident  Practice, practice, practice.  Keep the time frame in mind! (8-12 minutes) YOUR YOUR PRESENCE

Funny you should ask… WHAT ABOUT THE SLIDES?

 people don’t always listen well  Gives you something else to focus on  Drives your point home  Makes it easier for you to talk WHY? BECAUSE LOOKING AT JUST YOU IS BORING

 Or too big  OR ALL IN CAPS  or all lower case  Or all different COLORS DON’T MAEK THE TEXT TO SMALL

Distract, but to inform Entertain, but to emphasize Take the focus off you, but to give them something else to look at THE POINT IS NOT TO…

 Stick with the same 1-3 fonts throughout  Stick with the same 1-3 colors throughout  Don’t write out everything that you’re just going to say anyways because then it defeats the purpose of you not having a piece of paper in your hands. I mean, really, this is no different, you standing there reading this, then you standing there reading a piece of paper you just wrote out in the hallway on the way to class or in your last class or best case scenario, copied and pasted from Wiki last night. So don’t write up everything on here that you would like to say, rather, a simple phrase that will jog your memory of what you like to say. Think of this as writing a little note on a Post-It or on the back of your hand. BE CONSISTENT FOR THESE PEOPLE

 None of these topics should be taken lightly  You don’t know what people have been through  Set the appropriate, serious, respectful tone  This includes: text, visuals, facial expressions, tone of voice, body language, spoken language, etc. TIME TO BE SERIOUS

Time to Practice! COME ON DOWN!
