Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships Waters Workgroup Current Workgroup Activities National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Stewardship Project Indiana’s water data is part of the NHD Pilot project focused on one Hamilton County Watershed. Vendor used 2005 DEM and local hydro data to better define the local resolution NHD. IGIC working with USGS to identify a local steward

Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships Elevation & Geodetic Control Workgroup Current Workgroup Activities Working with Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyor’s (ISPLS) on the finishing touches to the Indiana Height Modernization Plan Will be submitted to National Geodetic Survey in hopes of receiving funding The plan will be used to solicit support around the state for improved heights from GPS Benefit to citizens, government, and private companies Help with Economic Development, decreased cost and increased accuracy of surveying and mapping, precision farming, and construction. WHAT IS HEIGHT MODERNIZATION? Height Modernization is a program in NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey (NGS) that uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) and other new technologies to increase the accuracy of elevation measurements that comprise the vertical portion of the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS). This system provides the foundation for positioning and navigation activities in the United States. It is the reference base for latitude, longitude, height (elevation), and distance between points on the Earth’s surface and defines the nation’s shoreline.

Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships Streets and Addresses Workgroup Address Integration Project – IGIC is working with partners across the state to develop a process for local governments to feed their address data into a single statewide repository.

Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships Cad to GIS Workgroup Current Workgroup Activities Newly formed workgroup focused on standards for CAD- GIS Integration

Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships Orthophotography Workgroup History In 2004/2005, the Orthophotography Workgroup created the specifications and selected the vendor for the 2005 Ortho Project Current Workgroup Activities Orthophotography Workgroup has began to meet again with the goal of creating an ongoing Statewide Ortho Program Two meetings so far Created Draft Document – Potential product sets are described 6 Inch Orthos Lidar Points Digital Elevation Model (Lidar derived) Statewide 2 Foot Contours Oblique Aerial Photography

Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships Legislative Committee History Worked with Senator David Ford and Rep Scott Reske to craft the Indiana GIS Legislation. The committee helped educate on the need for this valuable legislation. Current (Future) Committee Activities Educate lawmakers on the benefits of GIS and the IndianaMap Advocate for permanent funding for the IndianaMap Communicate the need for an ongoing Orthophotography Program Note: The Return on Investment (ROI) Study documentation hopefully will be a help in educating lawmakers.

Call for Participation on Committees and Workgroups If you want to make a difference in Indiana GIS, working on an IGIC Committee or Workgroup is a great way to start! - Many Committees meet by Conference Call, no need to drive to Indy

Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships IGIC Membership Benefits of Membership Network with other GIS Professionals Help shape statewide GIS policies Gain access to Indiana’s user community Receive members-only rate for annual GIS Conference Attend professional development activities Receive the monthly Indiana GIS newsletter Purchase software at discounted price Membership Types Individual $45.00 – Eligible for committee participation Institution $ – Listing on IGIC website with logo and link Corporate $ Listing on IGIC website with logo and link Enterprise $ – Free booth space at annual conference for non-profits and universities

Coordination of Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, and building partnerships National States Geographic Info Council NSGIC – Most if not all states are experiencing same issues as Indiana Maryland – Both State and locals have important role in centerline maintenance. Received letters from all counties saying they need imagery 21 of 24 Counties have provided parcel data to state Washington – WaTrans is using FME to incorporate road centerline files from Cities/Counties in Washington into a statewide road file. Mississippi – Statewide Orthos 2 Foot Contours statewide Utah – $400,000 to rural counties for parcel mapping Created Utah GIS Portal
