Multiples and Factors

Multiples A multiple of a number is what you get when you multiply that number. Multiples of 7 = Multiplying gives you multiples. 7 14 21 28 35 42 7 x 1 7 x 2 7 x 3 7 x 4 7 x 5 7 x 6

Multiples of 4 = Multiples of 11 = 8 12 16 20 24 4 x 1 4 x 2 4 x 3 4 x 4 4 x 5 4 x 6 11 22 33 44 55 66 11 x 1 11 x 2 11 x 3 11 x 4 11 x 5 11 x 6

Multiples can also be negative numbers as well. Multiples of 3 -12 -9 -6 -3 3 6 9 12 3 x -4 3 x -3 3 x -2 3 x -1 3 x 0 3 x 1 3 x 2 3 x 3 3 x 4

Factors Factors are numbers that can multiply to make your number. Factors come in pairs but are listed in order, each number being listed once. The numbers that multiply to make 10 are 1 x 10 and 2 x 5 So we list the factors of 10 as 1, 2, 5, 10.

The factors of 15 are The factors of 9 are The factors of 24 are 1, 3, 5, 15 1, 3, 9 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24

What are… The factors of 6? The first five multiples of 8? The factors of 100 that are also multiples of 2? 1, 2, 3, 6 8, 16, 24, 32, 40 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20 1, 2, 7, 14 1, 3, 11, 33 4.5, 9, 13.5, 18, 22.5 2, 4, 10, 20, 50, 100

Squares and Square Roots

Squares When a number is squared we multiply it by __________. 3 squared is 3 x 3 5 squared is 5 x ___ 12 squared is 12 x ___ We write squared as a small 2 above and to the right of the number. 7 squared is written 72 itself 5 12

Number Squared Formula Answer 02 0 x 0 12 1 x 1 1 22 2 x 2 4 32 3 x 3 42 4 x 4 52 62 72 82 92 102

Square Roots You use a square root to work out what a number was before it was squared. A square root is the opposite of a square. The square root of 100 is 10 because 102 = 100 The square root of 25 is 5 because ___ = 25 The square root of 81 is ___ because ___ = ___ 52 9 92 81

You need to know the square roots of; 144, 121, 100, 81, 64, 49, 36, 25, 16, 9, 4, 1, 0
