CHRONOLOGY OF THE DISASTER A series of deadly mudslides was triggered in South Korea (e.g., CHUNCHEON) on Wednesday, July 27 th. South Korea mobilized 100,000 soldiers in a massive search and rescue effort after mudslides.
DIMENSIONS OF THE DISASTER More than 200 people were killed and more than 80,000 left homeless by the flooding. Victims included a volunteer summer camp for local children, which was buried by a mudslide around midnight.
DIMENSIONS OF THE DISASTER About 126,000 households across South Korea suffered from power outages. US military bases in South Korea were also battered by the flash floods and landslides.
