 the literal dictionary definition of a word.  Has a neutral, objective tone.  For example: the name ‘Hollywood’ denotes an area of Los Angeles, worldwide known as the center of the American movie industry.

 Words with strong, emotional connotations.  For example: “Lose the slouchy sweats…put on a sassy skirt”  Venus commercial

 Using the advertisement guide, work with your partner and answer the questions.  We will be discussing your answers after you finish.

 You will be analyzing a commercial you see on TV.  Your paragraph needs 7-10 complete sentences.  Make sure to include the following: Name of the product Identify the advertisement’s audience Describe the effect of the picture and loaded language on the audience Rate the advertisement’s effectiveness with explanation.
