Jesus, The Son of God A Chronological and Geographical Study of the Life of Christ Part VII

Jesus’ Fame SpreadsJesus claims His deity Matthew 4:24-25 Mark 4:1 Luke 4:14; 5:1; 7:11 John 2:23; 4:47 At Nazareth (Luke 4:16-30) At Samaria (Jn. 4:25-26) At Capernaum (Mark 2:10) At Gerasenes of Decapolis (Luke 8:39) Jesus’ RebukesHostility Toward Jesus Matthew 5:20 Matthew 10:34-38 Matthew 12:30, 34 Mark 3:5 Isaiah 53:3 Matthew 2:13; 12:10, 24 Mark 2:6-7, 16, 18, 24; 3:5-6 John 4:1-3

Jesus’ third Galilean tour After His brief visit to Nazareth, Jesus sends out the 12 to preach the coming of the kingdom (Mk. 6:7-12; Matt. 9:35-10:1). Luke records the sending of the twelve after the raising of Jarius’ daughter. Pentecost was approximately one year away from this point (Acts 2).

Jesus’ fame continues to grow Mark 6:14 Mark 6:30-34

Jesus feeds the 5000 John 6:1-15

Jesus walks on the Sea of Galilee Matthew records Jesus traveling across the Sea of Galilee to Gennesaret (Matt. 14:34) Mark records Jesus traveling to Bethsaida and from there to Gennesaret (6:45, 53). Luke does not record the event John records that Jesus went to Capernaum (Jn. 6:24-25).

Geography Gennesaret Bethsaida

Jesus draws the line between His true followers and the unbelieving Upon Jesus telling the multitudes in figurative language that He would give them His flesh and blood for their salvation; they understood not and turned away from Him (cf. Jn. 6:60-71).

Further separation between the true followers of Jesus and the unbelieving While at Gennesaret, there came Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem to catch Jesus in error (Matt. 15:1-20)

Jesus travels to Tyre and Sidon of Phoenicia He cast out a demon from a girl (Mk. 7:24-30). Jesus returns to Galilee (the Sea of Galilee) and travels to Decapolis where He opens the ears of a deaf man and gives him the ability to speak (Mk. 7:31-37). Jesus then travels to Dalmanutha and is questioned again by the Pharisees (Mk. 8:11-13). From Dalmanutha, Jesus and the disciples travel to Bethsaida where he healed a blind man (Mk. 8:22-26). From Bethsaida to Caesarea Philippi (Matt. 16:13-19)

Conclusion: Jesus continues to grow in popularity though many followers were lost in John 6 (Mk. 6:14, 54). Jesus continues to expose error publicly and thereby drawing the lines of true disciples verses the unbeliever (Matt. 15:10-14). Jesus continues to reveal his deity (Matt. 16:13-19).
