Jeroboam’s Son 1 Kings 14:1-18  Abijah became sick  Jeroboam sent his wife to Ahijah the prophet  Ahijah was old and blind  Jehovah told him she was coming

Jeroboam’s Son 1 Kings 14:1-18  1 Kings 14:6 And so it was, when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps as she came through the door, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be another person? For I have been sent to you with bad news.  Read 1 Kings 14:6-14

Jeroboam’s Son 1 Kings 14:1-18  14 "Moreover the LORD will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam; this is the day. What? Even now! "For the LORD will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their wooden images, provoking the LORD to anger. "And He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who sinned and who made Israel sin." Prophecy Leadership Responsibilities God promised Jeroboam the kingdom as long as he remained faithful

God  Words to describe?  Relating to SIN?  Jealous 1 Kings 14:22 Now Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. 1 Kings 14:9 "but you have done more evil than all who were before you, for you have gone and made for yourself other gods and molded images to provoke Me to anger, and have cast Me behind your back- 2 Chron 12:7 …My wrath… When I sin??

Rehoboam  41 when he became king  Ruled Judah 17 years did not prepare his heart to seek the LORD  2 Chronicles 12:14 And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the LORD.  His son Abijah (Abijam) took his place on the throne Reigned three years  Eighteenth year of Jeroboam

Israel vs Judah 2 Chronicles 13  Abijah had 400,000 men for battle  Jeroboam had 800,000 men for battle  Abijah recounts history of division 2 Chronicles 13:4-12 (read 9-11)  Jeroboam circled for a rear ambush  God struck Israel and they fled  500,000 choice men of Israel died ‘almost’ impossible to believe; ½ million 2 Ch 13:9 "Have you not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made for yourselves priests, like the peoples of other lands, so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of things that are not gods? 10 "But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken Him; and the priests who minister to the LORD are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites attend to their duties. 11 "And they burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense; they also set the showbread in order on the pure gold table, and the lampstand of gold with its lamps to burn every evening; for we keep the command of the LORD our God, but you have forsaken Him. Have you ever heard anyone say, “God would never send anyone to hell?”

Israel vs Judah 2 Chronicles 13  2 Chronicles 13:18 Thus the children of Israel were subdued at that time; and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on the LORD God of their fathers.  Abijah took cities from Jeroboam Bethel Jeshanah Ephrain

Asa – king in Judah  Twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel  Reigned 41 years in Jerusalem  Grandmother's name was Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom  Asa remove her from position  The land was quiet for ten years  Army of 580,000 men

Asa – king in Judah  2 Ch 14:2 Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God,  3 for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images.  4 He commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment.

Asa – king in Judah  5 He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him.  6 And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest. Obedience = blessings

Jeroboam Dies  Jeroboam reigned 22 years  Evil (no good kings in Israel)  Nadab his son reigned in his place Reigned less than two years Evil Killed by Baasha Left none of the house of Jeroboam alive 1 Kings 15:29 And it was so, when he (Baasha) became king, that he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam anyone that breathed, … 30 because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he had sinned and by which he had made Israel sin, because of his provocation with which he had provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger.

Asa – king in Judah  Judah under siege by Baasha  Asa sent riches to Ben-Hadad king of Syria  Wants Ben-Hadad to attack Israel  He does and Baasha withdraws

Kings  Judah Rehoboam  17 years  Evil Abijah (Abijam)  3 years  Evil Asa  41 years  Good  Israel (all evil) Jeroboam  22 years Nadab  2 years Baasha  24 years

Confusing?  Abijah Jeroboam’s son who died  Abijah (Abijam) Rehoboam’s son 2 nd king of Judah  Ahijah prophet

Rehoboam  41 when he became king  Ruled Judah 17 years did not prepare his heart to seek the LORD  2 Chronicles 12:4 And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the LORD.  His son Abijah took his place on the throne Reigned three years  Eighteenth year of Jeroboam Lesson Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's delicacies Matthew 12:34 … How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Preview  2 Chron 15:2 …"Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.  4 "but when in their trouble they turned to the LORD God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them.
