Coordinate The real number that corresponds to a point.

Distance (on a line) The difference between coordinates.

Length Same as distance.

Segment Addition Postulate B is between A and C if and only if AB + BC = AC

Example R is between Q and S. RQ = 3x+5, RS = 5x – 2, and QS = 23. Find the length of all three segments. Q RS 3x + 5 5x – x + 5 5x – 2+=23 8x+ 3=23 8x = 20 QR = RS = QS = 23

Distance Formula

Example Find the distance between A(1, 3) and B(5, 6). = 5

Example Decide whether if P(-1, -6), Q(-8, 5), and R(3, -2). “is congruent to” YES
