Rhode Island was part of the New England Colonies In New England the winters are long and cold. The soil is poor so it was hard to grow crops.

Important Historical Information Rhode Island was ruled by the Native Americans before Roger Williams came. Roger Williams learned there language and was able to write it. Roger Williams actually bought the land from the Native Americans unlike the King of England, who took land from them.

Fascinating fact Roger Williams was a Puritan Rhode Island was a place for Puritan. His family could not afford to keep him in school. Rodger went into a famous university called Cambridge University.
