 Dinki Mini is of African origin.  From the Congolese word ‘ndingi’- lamentation or funeral song.  It is also known as gerreh. (tacky)  It is a mixture of song and dance. Dinkies are celebratory occasions.

 Dinki Mini was practiced openly throughout slavery.  It is usually performed after the death of a person, and up until the ninth night after the death.  It is usually done outdoors at the home of the deceased.

 A ritual is held to send off mature the spirits.  (rock of ages)  Entails the tying of the deceased and taking his or her mattress to the cross roads.

 The dance is doe to a mento type of music.  Focuses on the pelvic region.  The dancers, male and female, make suggestive rotations with the pelvis.  It is usually done in couples.
