What is a Catalyst?  Anything that incites a change  Any news item  Anything that is able to cause a change in stock price  Essential to value investing  Company news, change in leadership, change in macroeconomic conditions, etc.

Catalyst Examples  Can you provide an example of a catalyst?

Live Demo  How we do we use the research available to us to research and evaluate stocks?  For this demo, we will use Google Finance to examine Alimentation Couche-Tard (ATD.B)

Basic Investment Terminology  Ticker/Quote: The symbol used to represent the stock on a stock exchange. All TSX stocks end in.TO.  I.E: TD.TO, L.TO, RCI.B.TO  Market Cap: total value of shares outstanding  EPS: Earnings Per Share – net income over last four quarters (fiscal year) divided by the shares outstanding.  P/E Ratio: the ratio of the stock’s price, to its earnings per share  Beta: the measure of a stock’s risk in relation to its market Image Here

Analyst Team Activity  In two weeks – Head Analysts - research your industry and be prepared to present!  Maximum length of presentation is 2 minutes.  Should include general, basic information about the industry (major companies, how well are they doing, etc.)  Any presentation media is fine (no presentation media is fine as well).  Members – you will be sorted into teams by next week.
