Punctuating sentences What punctuation must every sentence have?

Start and end of sentences  What is wrong with these sentences:  the price of petrol keeps rising  my course is on a Friday evening  men were working on the road that is why I was late for work  the car kept rattling he pulled over  are you tired  Make a list of what you have learned.

What did you learn?  Sentences start with a capital letter.  Sentences end with full stops.  Questions end with question marks.  Capital letters, full stops and question marks help us to understand what we are reading.

Capital letters Make a list of as many words as you can that use capital letters. Can you group them in to different categories? What are the rules for using capital letters?

Names also start with capital letters  Names of people and places begin with capital letters.  Fiona is going to America soon.  The days of the week and months of the year also start with capital letters.  Next Tuesday is the last day in January.  ‘ I ’ is always a capital letter when you are writing about yourself.  Don’t use capital letters in the middle of a word.
