Let’s Learn Tide Pools! An Educational Game for Kids

Tide Pool Lesson Focussed on Cognitive Load Theory Andrew Om Krisha Moeller Usha Chazhiyat

CONTENT MAP

Terminal Objective 1 : Given a map, students (age 5-12) will be able to correctly identify the location of each of the local tide pool in the map Enabling Objective 1.1 (fact/recall) : Given a map, name and location markings of each of the 5 local tide pool, students (age 5-12) will be able to correctly identify (click) on the correct point for all of the 5 local tide pools. Terminal Objective 2 : Given the features of a tide pool, students (age 5-12) will be able to correctly identify the tide pool based on it’s features provided Enabling Objective 2.1 (concept/recall) : Given a map, location markings and name of one surrounding material, students (ages 5-12) will be able to correctly point to the location of the tide pool in the map where the mentioned material is found. Enabling Objective 2.2 (concept/recall) : Given a map, location markings and name of a sea creature, students (ages 5-12) will be able to correctly point to the location of the tide pool in the map where the sea creature is found. Enabling Objective 2.3 (concept/apply) : Given the name of one tide pool and a list of items, students (ages 5-12) will be able to select one item that they can carry to the tide pool. Shell Beach Shell Beach is the second tide pool on our list, and is located in La Jolla. This tide pool is created from powerful waves, so it is best to come view the sea creatures when the tide is low. It is a great place to find shells and sea lions! Tourmaline Surfing Park Tourmaline Surfing Park is the third tide pool on our list, and is located in San Diego. This tide pool is created by steep cliffs, and it is a great place to go surfing. Ocean Beach Ocean Beach is the fourth tide pool on our list, and is located in San Diego. This tide pool is surrounded by lots of sand, and has a big dog park. Cabrillo National Monument Cabrillo National Monument is the fifth tide pool on our list, and is located in Point Loma.
