Two Huge Loaves of Bread “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” Hebrews 13:15

The Facts, Please! The Feast of Harvest was held 50 days after Passover. Another name for it was the Feast of Pentecost. The Jews celebrated it at the end of the barley harvest, during the time they were harvesting their wheat.

More Facts, Please! Two huge loaves of bread were baked for the celebration of the Feast of Harvest in the temple at Jerusalem. First, wheat was reaped from a small field. It was hauled to the threshing floor in an ox cart. There the grain was spread out on the floor, and small oxen pulled a threshing board over it.

Facts continued. Next the wheat was winnowed by tossing it into the air with a wooden fork and letting the wind blow away the chaff (light hulls). The remaining chaff was removed by shaking the grains through a big sieve.

More Facts, Please! The wheat was ground into flour between two round flat stones. God instructed that one- fifth of a bushel of fine flour was to be used for making each large loaf. At a special ceremony in the temple, the priest “waved” the loaves. That is, they passed them before the altar as an offering to the Lord.
