WELCOME to St. Michael’s Sunday Worship

ANNOUNCEMENTS

WELCOME & OPENING We begin our worship in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly, While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high. Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past; Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee; Leave, ah Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee; Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me. All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring; Cover my defenceless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find; Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind. Just and holy is Thy Name, I am all unrighteousness; False and full of sin I am; Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin; Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within. Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of Thee; Spring Thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

CONFESSION AND DECLARATION OF GRACE

Friends in Christ: Let us draw near to God our Father with a true heart to confess our sins, and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us. Our help is in the name of the Lord. He made heaven and earth. I said, I will confess my sins to the Lord. Then he forgave the guilt of my sin.

P: Almighty God, our maker and redeemer, we confess to you that by nature we are sinful and unclean, and that we have sinned against you by thought, word, and deed. Therefore we flee for refuge to your infinite mercy and plead for your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.

C. Most merciful God, you have given your only Son to die for us. Have mercy on us, and for his sake grant us forgiveness of all our sins. By your Holy Spirit increase our knowledge of you and your will, and make us obedient to your word, so that by your grace we may come to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy on us, and has given his only Son to die for us, and for his sake forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in his name he has given the right to become children of God, and has given them his Holy Spirit. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved. Grant this, Lord, to us all. Amen.

Psalm 1

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forevermore. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY L: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you.

THE PRAYER OF THE DAY Loving and self-giving God, teach us to follow the example of your Son, Jesus, who was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. Lead us to be submissive to you, and kind and considerate to others. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reignswith you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Come, Lord Jesus, come into this weary world. O, how we long for you to come, Lord, come. 1 of 5

Still the cry goes up, ‘How long?’ Wars have come and wars have gone; Come, Lord, come! Still the cry goes up, ‘How long?’ Come, Lord Jesus, come into this weary world. O, how we long for you to come, Lord, come. 2 of 5

Come and free us, we are bound Hearts are breaking tears fall down; Come, Lord, come! Come and free us, we are bound Come, Lord Jesus, come into this weary world. O, how we long for you to come, Lord, come. 3 of 5

Will we live to see the dawn? Darkness grows as night wears on; Come, Lord, come! Will we live to see the dawn? Come, Lord Jesus, come into this weary world. O, how we long for you to come, Lord, come. 4 of 5

God is with us through it all Nations rise and nations fall; Come, Lord, come! God is with us through it all Come, Lord Jesus, come into this weary world. O, how we long for you to come, Lord, come. 5 of 5

“From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead” Matthew 24:36-44 Romans 13:11-14

Because of the unknown factor I. WE ARE TO WAKE UP! “…The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11) “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. (Matthew 24:42)

Because of the unknown factor WE ARE TO UNDERSTAND THE PRESENT TIME “understanding the present time” (Romans 13:11).

Matthew 24:37-39 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.

Genesis 6 5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. 6 And the LORD was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw that the earth was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon the earth.

Luke 12 “54 …. “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, ‘It is going to rain’; and so it happens. 55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat’; and it happens. 56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?” (Luke 12)

It will be worth it all Sometimes the day seems long, Our trials hard to bear. We´re tempted to complain, to murmur and despair. But Christ will soon appear to catch his bride away! All tears forever over in God’s eternal day!

It will be worth it all when we see Jesus It will be worth it all when we see Jesus! Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase. So, bravely run the race till we see Christ.

Sermon Series

The Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried.

He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The advent of our King (LHS 11)

Our prayers must now employ, The advent of our King Our prayers must now employ, And we must hymns of welcome sing In strains of holy joy. 1 of 5

Incarnate deigns to be; To set His servants free. The everlasting Son Incarnate deigns to be; Himself a servant’s form puts on To set His servants free. 2 of 5

The peace He comes to bring. O Zion’s daughter, rise To meet Thy lowly king; Nor let thy faithless heart despise The peace He comes to bring. 3 of 5

As judge on clouds of light, He soon will come again, And His true members will unite With Him in heaven to reign. 4 of 5

With Father, Spirit, ever one, All glory to the Son, Who comes to set us free, With Father, Spirit, ever one, Through all eternity. 5 of 5

OFFERING PRAYER P: Thank you, God, for giving us so much, especially your Son, Jesus Christ. As you have loved and accepted us, teach us to love and accept others. Make us peace-loving and ready to serve. Amen.

Prayer of the Church

Silent reflection

C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to Holy Communion P: The Lord be with you C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Holy Communion It is indeed right and good, Lord God, holy Father, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. You have revealed your glorious presence to us in a new way through the mystery of the Word made flesh, so that as we see you in your Son, we are drawn to love you whom we cannot see.

C: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, Holy Communion And so, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we adore and praise your glorious name: C: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Holy Communion Words of Institution

a member of this congregation or not. Distribution Holy Communion is for believers in Jesus who desire to receive God’s forgiveness and believe that Christ is present in this celebration as they eat the bread and drink the wine. If this is what you believe, then you are welcome to partake in Holy Communion, whether you are a member of this congregation or not.

Prayer After Communion Almighty and merciful Father, thank you that your Son Jesus Christ has served us at his own table. As he became the servant of all, help us to be a servant to others. For he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

BLESSING Go in peace, and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.

BLESSING The Lord bless you and keep you, The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; The Lord look upon you with favour, And give you peace Amen

Make me a channel of Your Peace

Make me a channel of your peace; Where there is hatred, let me bring your love; Where there is injury, you pardon, Lord, And where there’s doubt, true faith in you. 1/4 Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope Where there is darkness, only light And where there’s sadness, ever joy. 2/4

O master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled, as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved, as to love with all my soul. 3/4 Make me a channel of your peace, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, In giving to all men that we receive, And in dying that we’re born to life. 4/4 Based on a Prayer by St Francis of Assisi

You may stand for silent prayer as the Bell is rung…
