The Algebra Commandments

Items to Remember 1.Circle or highlight then RENAME key words to make it easier to understand! 2.Use the process of elimination on EVERY problem!

I. Benquad Anytime you see a variable squared, use benquad. (x 2 ) – Think of your two best friends – Ben and Quad Prime is NOT pretty!!!

II. Exponent Rules When you multiply variables, you add the exponents, (so exponents get larger) x = + When you divide variables, you subtract the exponents, (so exponents get smaller) / = ─

XI. Scatter Plots & Stats Use your STAT key when given a chart or points. Use EDIT to enter data into lists Use CALC after data is entered to find the line-of-best-fit (#4 when x, or #5 when x 2 )

XII. The Asystems Program This program can be used anytime you are given a system of equations written in standard form. It will identify the intersection and also graph the lines.

XIII. When you see y=, do something with it! This can be used anytime you want to graph an equation or inequality. Remember: it must be written in slope-intercept form!!! You can also calculate various points such as an intersection and points using this button.

XIV. Polynomials Working with polynomials I is important to remember the rules of exponents… 1)You may only add and subtract like terms 2)When multiplying variables, add exponents 3)When dividing variables, subtract exponents USE YOUR FORMULA CHART!

XV. Circles Diameter is the distance from one end of a circle to the other, crossing through the middle. Radius is the distance from the center of the circle to the edge. It is half the distance of the diameter. Circumference = πd Area = πr 2

XVI. The Pythagorean Theorem This is used when dealing with calculating distance of one side of a right triangle. a 2 + b 2 = c 2 a and b are legs, c is the hypotenuse
