Clothing in the 1700's

Women's Clothing Most women did not own more that 2 to 4 outfits. Their clothing would be made of wool or linen. They would had sew all of their clothes. The women also, had to have their elbows and knees covered. The richer women had very detailed gowns. They were very colorful and gorgeous.

Men's clothing Most middle to upper class men wore suits that consisded of various articles of clothing. Hats were one of the most fashionable items a man could own. They were also into wearing wigs.

Children's Clothing Younger boys and girls wore low cut dresses. When boys turned about 6 they got to wear breeches. Girls wore back- fasting gowns that were much more simple than the womens gowns.

Undergarments There were two main undergarments. The corset was long-waisted and cut with a narrow back.A shift was a basic undegarment from the middle ages to the 1900's. The shift had a drawstring neck and had full sleeves.

Shoe's The men wore leather shoes that fasened with buckles and worn with silk or wool stockings. Women wore extremly pointed, wooden clogs that were usally covered in cloth. The shoes normaly matched the womens outfit like they do today.
