Why Use A HRM? If you want to get more exact with your precision cardio, you can use a heart rate monitor in addition to evaluating your rate of perceived exertion. The heart rate monitor will tell you exactly what your heart rate is as you're exercising, which means you can then increase or decrease your intensity to get a precise workout.

What Do You Need  Each unit will consist of a chest strap transmitter and a wrist receiver

Positioning the transmitter  Attach the adjustable elastic strap to one end of the transmitter. Moisten the electrodes with saliva or water. The electrodes are the part with groves on them.

Start heart rate measurement  Hold the face of the receiver next to the center part of the transmitter. The receiver displays 888, heart rate will be displayed in 5 seconds and you can see your heart rate and the heart symbol in the display. The heart symbol will flash to correspond to your heart rate.

Strapless Heart Rate Monitors  You can also use a heart rate monitor that does NOT have a chest strap.  Some people may use these as they prefer not to wear a chest strap while exercising.  These can be a valuable resource for schools as this avoids having to deal with the hygiene issue of different students sweating on the straps and having to wear them  You can also use a heart rate monitor that does NOT have a chest strap.  Some people may use these as they prefer not to wear a chest strap while exercising.  These can be a valuable resource for schools as this avoids having to deal with the hygiene issue of different students sweating on the straps and having to wear them

Examples These are two examples of wireless heart rate monitors.  The top one is the ePULSE Strapless Heart Rate Monitor which features Strapless, heart rate (min.-average-max), calories, exercise time, target zone alerts, and personal profile.  The one below is the BOWFLEX Basic Strapless Non-Continuous Heart Rate Monitor which features Strapless ECG accurate heart rate and time.
