Steps of Scientific Method 1)Ask Questions 2)Hypothesize and Predict 3)Test Hypothesis 4)Analyze Results 5)Draw Conclusions 6)Communicate Results 7)Carry Out Further Scientific Inquiry

Ask Questions To begin scientific inquiry, make observations, make inferences, and ask questions about the natural world.

Hypothesize and Predict Develop a hypothesis, which is a possible explanation for an observation that can be tested by scientific investigations. Make predictions on what you think you will find when testing the hypothesis.

Test Hypothesis Test whether the predictions made are true by designing an experiment, making a model, gathering evidence or research, etc.

Analyze Results Sort, graph, classify, or make calculations with data and look for trends or relationships.

Draw Conclusions After finding relationships in data and making inferences, summarize the information gained from testing the hypothesis.

Communicate Results Share results with the community.

Carry Out Further Scientific Inquiry Scientific inquiry is not finished once an investigation is complete. – Retest the hypothesis to make sure conclusions are the same if hypothesis is VALID – Revise the hypothesis and retest if hypothesis is NOT VALID
