Game Presentation Derek, Alan, Dan, and Dan

To introduce the concept of ‘Logic Gates’ to the students in an interactive way. (a ‘hook’ or ‘attention grabber’)

Specific Expectations SPV.03EGrade 10Technological Education Skills and ProcessesOverall Expectations use logic gates to construct simple circuits and/or SP1.02EGrade 10Technological Education Skills and ProcessesComputer Logic– derive the truth tables of the fundamental logic gates

Logic Gates British Bulldog Step One All of the students pick a number and a colour. (can be done by a simple random generator on a computer or with cards pulled out of a hat) Random Generator

Logic Gates British Bulldog Step Two The teacher calls out a number and a colour using a logic gate. The person with that number ’gets caught’ and moves to the middle of the room. The rest move to the opposite side of the room.

Logic Gates British Bulldog Step Three Step two is repeated until only one person is left. That person wins.

Variation - Logic Gates Tag Setting: Any class The teacher will create 4-5 safe bases and spread them out as far as possible. Make these safe bases by pushing desks together. Assign approximately 4 students to be “IT.” These students will stay between the safe bases. The other students will be located at one of the safe bases. The teacher will call out a logic gate, a number, and a colour. Students, whose colour and number make the logic gate true, are required to run to another safe base. If such a student is tagged by someone who is IT before he or she reaches another safe base, then he or she is IT. The person who did the tagging is no longer IT and will therefore, go the nearest safe base.
