Oaxacan Animal Sculptures Samples of painted PATTERNS

Oaxaca is a state in Mexico known for its rich culture and crafts.

Alejibres: brightly-colored sculptures of fantastical animal-like creatures

Pedro Linares: creator of traditional alejibres Had vivid dreams filled with monsters and other colorful creatures when he was very ill. His artwork depicted these dreams Used papier mache to create these sculptures

Your assignment: With a partner you will choose an animal and bring in a picture of it. (10% of your final project grade!) You will form this animal and papier mache it. You can exaggerate this form! Each part of the animal should have intricate patterns and designs similar to the traditional alejibre sculptures shown.

Please look at the following samples for animal forms and pattern ideas!
